Rhenne Cervantes recently spent time with his local Kiwanis International Club, a community organization that he has been a part of for the past five years. His involvement with Kiwanis is just one of the ways he makes a habit of generously serving his community, but is definitely his most consistent. Rhenne Cervantes is seen as one of the veteran members of the club, and many look to him for guidance and support.

Kiwanis International is an organization focused on community service. The majority of the service focuses on serving children and families that are less fortunate. The official website for Kiwanis states that clubs are located in some 80 different nations, with members putting on nearly 150,000 events and service projects each year. These projects raise an average of $100 million annually, with the money going to help out families in respective communities. “It is really incredible how many families and children are helped by this organization. Isn’t it amazing how a group of average and ordinary people can come together to do such powerful things?” said Rhenne Cervantes.

Programs offered by the organization include “Bring Up Grades,” a program focused on recognizing students who excel in the classroom, “Key Leader,” a program used to develop future leaders, and “The Eliminate Project.” Rhenne Cervantes describes The Eliminate Project as, “…a global campaign aiming to eliminate maternal/neonatal tetanus.” If not stopped, this disease will affect millions of mothers and babies in the future. These are some of the on-going, national projects that Kiwanis is involved with, but each local club works with their own various projects. “We spend time talking about those projects, but we also like to see how we can make a noticeable impact on our immediate community,” said Rhenne Cervantes.

While the focus of Kiwanis Clubs is to help the community, there are also other benefits to being a member. Rhenne Cervantes has enjoyed having the ability to make new friends and build relationships. “Our club is more of a family than a club. I’ve made a handful of friends here with people I otherwise never would have met,” said Rhenne Cervantes.
