Ramona Maharaj from the City of Hamilton is an English teacher who worked abroad for many years after earning she teaching degree. She decided to help underprivileged children and adults that wanted to learn English but had no way of doing so because they could not afford a formal education or there were not enough teachers in their area to teach English. Ramona Maharaj from the City of Hamilton has been all over the globe, helping local communities become more globalized by teaching the people English which can allow them to interact with a wider variety of people from around the world.

Ramona Maharaj from the City of Hamilton has always been passionate about helping others and dreamed of being a teacher since she was a young girl. It was her love of reading about far off places that gave her the idea to teach abroad. She would get lost in books set in distant countries with beautiful landscapes that talked about the people there. Ramona loved learning about different cultures and wanted to experience them for herself one day. Teaching was the perfect way to combine both of her passions and has allowed her to expand her horizons and knowledge of other cultures.

After spending years moving around the world, Ramona Maharaj from the City of Hamilton moved to Fort Lauderdale to put down roots. But not long after being in the city, she is thinking about planning a trip to India to help children in some small villages learn English. She stayed connected to other teachers she met abroad and their latest project to help teach in the northeast region of the country has sparked her interest.

Her fellow travel loving teachers have joined together to reach out to communities in the greatest need for teachers and often travel together so they can make a bigger impact on impoverished areas. After learning about the need for teachers in this region from aid workers, they are planning a year long trip to lend their services to the community members. Although Ramona Maharaj from the City of Hamilton is interested in helping out, she wants to finish getting settled first in her new city of Fort Lauderdale.
