Nicholas Dematteis has been living in Boulder, Colorado for more than 10 years. He discovered the beauty of the area when he started visiting colleges, and knew that he wanted to attend the University of Colorado at Boulder when he saw the iconic Flatirons. Nicholas Dematteis has a Masters of Science degree in Architectural Engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Although obtaining the degree was difficult, he was able to do it with flying colors, awarding him a position for the local government. He worked for the government on various building projects for 10 years, but decided he wanted to more artistic freedom with his engineering designs than what the government could offer. He has recently opened his own architectural engineering firm in the community, which is designed to encompass the artistic nature of the city and its people.

Many of the designs that Nicholas builds are created in order to show the world the personality of the town. Boulder is known for being a liberal college town with devoted citizens who want to spend as much time outside as they do on their own careers. The people are artistic, unique, and devoted to keeping their adventurous lifestyle part of the community spirit, which is something that he tries to encapsulate with each design.

However, it takes a great deal of work to run a business, especially one that operates in the architectural engineering industry. Not only does Nicholas Dematteis have to run a successful business, but he has to make sure he has an electrical engineering team, a plumbing team, and a structural department in order to make sure every aspect of a building is in pristine working condition. He often hires interns from the university in order to get more hands on each building project, as well as prepare young professionals.
