Merl Roy Cappoen Accomplishes Lifelong Goal

Merl Roy Cappoen has always wanted to attend a four year university. In 1991, Merl Roy Cappoen was given the chance.

 
As a young child, it was always Merl Roy Cappoen's dream to go to college and graduate in good standing within his class. Merl Roy Cappoen applied himself studiously during his years of early education, working tirelessly to improve his qualifications and better his chances of getting in to a 4 year university. As high school came to a close in 1969, Merl Roy Cappoen realized that college would have to wait, and entered the workforce instead.

For the next 22 years, Merl Roy Cappoen held on to his dream of one day attending college. As Merl Roy Cappoen moved through his career, he began to educate himself on various subjects, resolute in his desire to not waste his opportunity for education. Merl Roy Cappoen was unyielding in his intentions to one day attend a university, and planned to make the most of the opportunity once it came available to him.

Finally, Merl Roy Cappoen had the opportunity to attend college in 1991, 22 years after graduating high school. When asked about the delay, Merl Roy Cappoen had this to say: β€œIt was a long time coming, enrolling in college. There were some times where I wasn't sure it would be possible. Looking back, I know that it has been a great decision and an excellent experience following through on my dream.”

Not only did Merl Roy Cappoen accomplish his dream of going to college, but Merl Roy Cappoen made the most of his time at Portland State University. During his tenure there, Merl Roy Cappoen earned degrees in business management, human resources, and information systems. Merl Roy Cappoen truly put his time in college to good use and has benefitted greatly from the experience.

However, attending college was only half of Merl Roy Cappoen's dream. In 1995, Merl Roy Cappoen graduated from Portland State University. Merl Roy Cappoen was overjoyed when asked about this experience: β€œI know that it has taken a long time, but I am truly proud of my accomplishments here at Portland State. I know that the time spent here was not wasted, and that I have come out a better person than I was at the start.”
