He has often taken the route of putting together a golf program through its available talent and utilizing the protocols he has perfected since his days starting to play golf as a child and in high school. These standards are something that has guided him throughout his career and has put him in a position where at one time he was very active and participating in various professional golf tournaments globally. He often is mentioned in the programs at Iowa State University but has grown a lot since then. He is now the assistant athletic director at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa. He takes tedious notes on how his players progress day in and day out. Mark Hankins loves the opportunity to get really to know them during the recruiting process that is a great experience for those that get to meet him.

People around the state tend to know his name very well as he is extremely liked by many Iowans. In recent times, he has been on a golf pro tour but has been at the Nike tour and the Tommy Armour Tour. During the recruiting process, many of the younger recruits start understanding who he is in his approach to golf and being a student athlete.

One of the more impressive sides of Mark Hankins is his love for Iowa and the sports programs involved. He is ready to bring and develop a new concept for the coaching within the staff. He was Big Ten coach of the year two times while he was at Michigan State University coaching. For now he is extremely excited for the next season and how some of his players have progressed in their personal game.
