Mariko Dormer is a lifelong Toronto resident who developed a thirst for travel at a young age. During her first year of college, she went on a study abroad trip that took her on a cruise down the Atlantic seaboard and to the Caribbean, where she first learned of different cultures and lifestyles than that of her own. From there, the world was her oyster; and she was going to take it as far as she could and see and experience all that she could. This led to the mapping of a trip of a lifetime, one that she is more likely to repeat than she is to forget.

Her trip started in South America, where she flew into Lima, Peru and took the rest of her journey by land. After landing, Mariko Dormer quickly found the bus station and booked a trip to Cuzco. From there, she hiked the Inca Trail and visited the ancient ruins of Machu Picchu. After that was all done, she went on to Chile, where she made stops at well-known tourist areas such as San Pedro de Atacama and Concepcion, all while taking tours of the local wineries and getting a solid lesson in viticulture. She then crossed into Argentina, where she trekked glaciers in Patagonia and then traveled across the country to Buenos Aires for tango lessons and some nights in the city’s vibrant nightlife scene. Mariko Dormer had fallen in love with South America already; and she hadn’t even made it to Brazil yet.

Brazil was the perfect ending to such an epic trip; as Mariko Dormer had arrived at the perfect time. The World Cup was about to start, and she had tickets in hand for some of the games that were played in Rio de Janeiro. While the games were an exciting once in a lifetime experience, Mariko still found more enjoyment in exploring the natural beauty and the culture of the area. She fell in love with Rio de Janeiro, eventually declaring it as her favorite city in the world.
