In May of 2014, Jerome Abrams was honored by his local community by being voted the 2nd Best Physician in Kent County in the First State Favorites 2014 edition of the Dover Post newspaper. Being named one of the county’s best physicians was an honor for Jerome Abrams who spent the majority of his life treating patients with compassion and respect. The honor closely coincided with another notable accomplishment in his medical career; the opening of a new family practice.

This is not the first time Jerome Abrams has accomplished starting a private practice. When making the transition to private practice, he was one of the founding partners of Dover Family Physicians in 1983. He worked at Dover Family Physicians until 2013, completing a full 30 years at the facility.

“I was excited about starting a new family practice. The facility is different, but my patients can continue to expect the same quality care and personal treatment they are used to,” says Jerome Abrams. The new family practice is called Family Medicine of Smyrna-Clayton.

Jerome Abrams has been part of the Bayhealth Medical Center system for years. He served on the active medical staff from 1982 to 2013. In addition to serving as an active staff member, he held multiple chair positions including Chairman and Founder of the Department of Family Medicine (2012 -2013) and Co-Chairman of the On Call Compensation Committee (2013).


The family practice is dedicated to providing comprehensive and compassionate care – values Jerome Abrams practiced his entire career. The facility accepts most insurance plans and welcomes new patients. Understanding the unpredictability of some illnesses, the facility also works with patients to accommodate same day appointments.

Jerome Abrams will continue to offer the services patients have received from him before. He places emphasis on preventative care and tries to understand his patients’ lifestyles in order to address risks and develop plans to maintain or improve health.
