Ian Renner of New York supports premier fundraising event for City Harvest.

Ian Renner of New York is a professional set designer with many years of experience in the film and TV industry. He is also a committed supporter of his community, who for years has been involved with the City Harvest nonprofit.

As he knows, City Harvest collects surplus food from restaurants, grocers, bakeries, and others in the food business, and delivers it to food banks in and around New York. "It's one of those things that makes so much sense, it's hard to believe that it has succeeded," says Ian Renner of New York. HE says that City Harvest is the world's first food rescue organization. It began in 1982, and he has been supporting it with donations and involvement since 1992.

He is looking forward to the 2015 edition of Summer in the City, one of the premier fundraisers in support of City Harvest. The 2014 event raise $335,000. As in years past, the 2015 edition will be a walk-around tasting event that features more than forty of New York's best chefs and restaurants, wine, specialty cocktails, and live entertainment. It's attended by some of the city's leading young philanthropists and tastemakers, and veterans like Ian Renner of New York.

"They take this very direct approach to ending hunger," Ian Renner of New York says of City Harvest. "I have a lot of respect for that and am happy to support them in any way possible." He says that he really likes it that City Harvest is a food rescue organization. "There is just so much waste in this country, and I think it's a sin. The fact that this organization is taking food that would otherwise end up in a landfill somewhere, and providing it to people who really need it, means a lot to me."

Ian Renner of New York says that he hopes to be pulling on his running shoes in the fall for another City Harvest event. The organization has been chosen as a Charity Partner for the TCS New York City Marathon, set for November 1. "They're asking for runners of all skill levels to be on their team, so I guess that includes me." He says that team runners each commit to raise at least three thousand dollars, and the overall goal is to raise more than $100,000 to help feed those New Yorkers who need the help.
