George Landegger is a veteran businessman in the forest products industry. He is a well-known entrepreneur, industrialist and philanthropist.

George Landegger is a figure in the world of the forest products industry. At age 77, he has seen a tremendous amount of change in not only his industry, but in the trends of globalization. One of the interesting things that he has witnessed is the reverse process of companies that have established themselves on an international basis. There is a current trend for certain companies including many traditionally manufacturing focused companies towards establishing plants and manufacturing facilities right here in the United States. The reasons for this are many, but at the root of it all is a certain reality that indicates that despite the differences in wages that can be expected from producing products overseas, there are specific advantages towards bringing manufacturing jobs to the United States.
George Landegger has seen this happening across the South and has been responsible for the establishment of foreign investment within the state of Alabama. He is currently the chair of the SOZO Group, which is dedicated towards establishing Greenfield industrial investment from foreign sources, especially from China in projects that are firmly rooted in the South. He has one such facility already under construction and he is working on the next. What these international corporations have found is that the advantages of using American labor are too great to deny. American workers are focused and have a certain level of education which benefits advanced manufacturing processes. They also take tremendous pride in the products that they affect, so the quality of product that is made is better.
Through this work, he is currently devoted towards encouraging companies which are based in China to build factories, specifically in the state of Alabama. His efforts helped create jobs and economic opportunities. There are 10 such projects in the pipeline and he has sponsored two symposia, each with some 60 Chinese companies in Monroeville, Alabama. The object of these events was to familiarize these companies with the area in order to recruit them as investors and factory owners in his beloved state. He has had the tremendous opportunity to coordinate with state officials and federal parties, as well as dignitaries, governmental and business leaders from China and Hong Kong. He looks forward to what the future has to hold in terms of investment in the South.
