Gagandeep Singh is a 21-year-old son of immigrants who has quite the array of experience as a young adult. As Chief Executive Officer of J&G Contracting Incorporated, and Vice President of Tristate Contracting of New York, he leads a busy life in the corporate world. Singh is also an Engineering major at Hofstra University with a minor in Sociology that he deems essential in his academic career.

"The study of sociology helps us understand society. It is a science on another spectrum from my chosen major in engineering, and I love the contrast, as well as how the two complement one another." Being an Engineer who is in tune with the needs of the community is very important to Singh. As a second generation American, Singh has acclimated well to his life in the United States, and he greatly enjoys the scientific study of how American interact with one another. In particular he is interested in the patterns of this interaction throughout history.

The study of sociology helps prepare students for the inevitable lifetime of change, something he finds essential for Engineers to learn early in their careers. The ability to adapt to the needs of an ever-changing world is pivotal for any successful engineer to understand. "Listening to the needs of the people, and creating projects that speak to those needs, that is the type of Engineer I want to become. I want to help others on a very personal level, and I believe studying sociology along with my skills as an Engineer will only make me more understanding of those needs."
The ability to see the world in which we have lived in our entire lives is unique and thrilling. Sociology provides a better understanding of our environment and aids in the application of our skills in talents in a meaningful and impacting way based on that newfound understanding.

As an Engineering student with a strong foundation in business, Gagandeep Singh hopes to couple his business savvy understanding with his talent in Engineering and his interest in serving others to become a highly successful Engineer. Sociology helps us all to understand how we became the people we are today. Singh believes this is essential in helping one grow into the person he or she chooses to become in the future. "Knowing where I came from, and how I got to this point, makes me the person I am today. How can I better myself without recognizing who I am? How every interaction, every life experience impacts my future?" Singh says, speaking of his deep interest in the study of sociology. Having an understanding of the past will certainly help us all to create a brighter more prosperous future.
