Frank Lollino has spent over two decades in the Chicago Public School District as a Physical Education instructor and has picked up a number of teaching philosophies over the years. After some time working with high school students and basketball players at the collegiate and high school levels as a basketball coach, Lollino has developed his own teaching philosophy based on the three F’s that he strives to be in his role as teacher and coach: Fair, firm, and flexible.

Frank Lollino says that fairness leads to opportunity, firmness leads to stability, and flexibility leads to compromise. Fairness lets everyone become involved in the same system that Lollino tries to install in his gym. As soon as students or players realize that hard work in this system leads to greater opportunity, the incentive to perform on the court and in class becomes more enticing, leading to greater opportunity for everyone who participates and works hard to improve. Firmness, in Lollino’s system, means that all of his expectations, orders, goals, and objectives are clear to the students and players, creating a stable learning environment from which everyone can benefit. Students can be disciplined in their learning by following procedure and adhering to expectations and objectives. Flexibility on Lollino’s part allows for multiple learning styles to fit into his system and for students to grow and develop the way they want to. By being flexible and making compromises to students, Lollino helps them learn faster.

Frank Lollino has applied his coaching and teaching style to programs for over two decades, and everywhere he has gone, students and players have shown great improvement in the Physical Education program and on the court. Lollino got his start coaching basketball at Triton College as an assistant for six years before moving up to the head coach’s position in 1997. After a stop in the high school ranks for Austin High School and Lane Tech College Prep High School in Chicago, Lollino became the assistant coach for the Morton College men’s basketball team in 2006. He became the head coach in 2007. The team appeared in the NJCAA national championship twice while he was there.
