Fabio Mendez was invited to visit and witness two different greenfield airport projects in Qatar and Ecuador.

The Hamad International Airport in Qatar is a modern, bustling airport that welcomes travelers from all over the globe. But when Fabio Mendez was there in November and December of 2011, the New Doha International Airport Project, as it was then known was still under construction and still several years away from completion.
Fabio Mendez visited the site at the invitation of one of its consulting firms. As a project finance consultant and financial advisor to similar infrastructure projects, he was able to personally witness its scope and advancements. His hosts provided him with a guided visit to the construction site, and received him in the management team's on-site offices. The project was already hamstrung by a series of costly delays. The new airport did not officially open until April 30, 2014.

Fabio Mendez made a similar visit to the New Quito International Airport Project in Ecuador in 2010. As part of Infrastructure Project Finance S.A. (IPF), he was asked by the private corporation in charge of the project to come and see things for himself. "This was a special visit," he recalls, "along with Promotora Bicentenario Airport's Project Manager and also with the Board's President to acknowledge Quiport´s experience, and particularly AG's credentials and current airport construction experience." He met privately with the Project Director, the Financial Director, and the Constructing Director, as well as with top executives from the Project Management Team and the Concessionaire.

As Fabio Mendez knows, the New Quito International Airport, now known as the Mariscal Sucre International Airport in Tababela, opened in February of 2013. It is the busiest airport in Ecuador, and one of the busiest in all of South America. It has been, and is expected to continue to be, a significant contributor to the economic development of the city of Quito.

Fabio Mendez has had roles in structuring and advising major infrastructure projects during his career, including the Boyacá road Connection project, the Ubaté Valley Concession Project, the Southern Perimeter Concession Project, the Bicentenario Airport Project, the “Centro-Norte” Airports Concession Project, the “Portal de Soledad” Transmetro Project, and the Las Americas Highway Concession Project, among others while he was at Infrastructure Project Finance S.A.

Fabio Mendez attended Externado University in Bogota, Colombia, and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and International Relations. He also attended the Université Paris II in France, and earned a Master of Arts in International Relations, and International Politics and Economics.
