In 2001, Eric Butera of Utah completed an Associates of Science degree and completed a leadership development course provided by the government at Fort Lewis, Washington, in 2002. By 2007, Eric Butera of Utah was done serving the military. “I gave the military the best I had to offer, but I never intended on making it a career. I am grateful for every lesson the army taught me and everything I was able to accomplish in order to better myself,” says Eric Butera of Utah.

After his honorable discharge, Eric Butera of Utah returned to school. He was accepted to the University of Utah, where he majored in Parks, Recreation and Tourism. In 2013, Eric Butera of Utah graduated with his Bachelor of Science degree but not before he completed two internships.

During the summer of 2012, Eric Butera of Utah completed a short internship where he worked as an assistant for disabled veterans. The work was hard but not nearly as long as his second internship in 2013. “In the summer of 2013, my internship involved long hours serving as a personal assistant. The internship was to assist a legally blind business owner,” says Eric Butera of Utah. When the summer of 2013 drew to an end, Eric Butera of Utah completed 480 hours of internship work.

“You learn a lot as an intern. I think it is something every college or university student should make an effort to do. Not everyone has to intern for veterans or assisting the blind, but you meet people, and who knows where that can lead,” says Eric Butera of Utah. Eric Butera of Utah always enjoyed helping others and believes his internships were a perfect fit for his personality.
