Posted March 25, 2016 by pzmediainc1

Dr. Thomas V. Taylor, once an influential and skilled gastrointestinal surgeon has turned to other activities to keep his hands busy after retirement.

Dr. Thomas V. Taylor worked for decades in the medical field as a surgeon, professor, and writer. He wrote eight books and 250 scholarly papers on surgery and new surgical techniques for gastrointestinal treatment. Dr. Taylor retired from the medical profession as the Chief of Academic Surgery, Chief of Postgraduate Medical Education, and Surgical Program Director at St. Joseph Hospital in Houston. He had worked at the Baylor College of Medicine and taught surgery at the University of Texas. He now has time to try his hand in the arts, painting watercolors, singing in church choirs in Houston, and learning the guitar.

Dr. Thomas V. Taylor was born and raised near Preston, England. He lived in the nearby town of Longridge until he turned 18 and went to Edinburgh to begin his premedical training. Dr. Taylor started his undergraduate studies at the University of Edinburgh and later finished his medical degree at the University of Manchester. He completed residencies in general surgery, gastroenterology, urology, orthopedics, and cardiac surgery at the Manchester Royal Infirmary, the Royal National Orthopedic Hospital in London, and the Royal Postgraduate Medical School. He was the Chief of Gastrointestinal Surgery at Manchester Royal Infirmary when he was invited to teach surgery at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.

Dr. Thomas V. Taylor accepted the position at Baylor because he wanted to explore a new place and engage with a large medical community. Baylor’s medical school is a part of the Texas Medical Center, a huge complex that houses several hospitals, research labs, and other health services facilities all in one place. Dr. Taylor used his time there to not only educate classrooms of would-be surgeons and other healthcare professionals, but also contribute to ongoing research in the gastroenterology field.

Dr. Thomas V. Taylor offers advice to surgeons he mentors now and then, and he hopes that his work in the field of gastroenterology will continue to help doctors and patients around the world. While Dr. Taylor is mostly occupied with following his favorite cricket teams and learning new art forms to dabble in, his accomplishments as a surgeon will stand the test of time.
