David Sugarman is calling on the government of North Korea to release Kenneth Bae, an American citizen who has been held prisoner there since November of 2012. And he says if they really need a prisoner, they can take him instead.

David Sugarman launched the #BringBaeBack social media campaign to draw attention to the plight of Kenneth Bae, and to increase pressure of the North Korean government to set him free. "We need to get the world and the American people behind us," David Sugarman says.

Kenneth Bae was arrested on November 3, 2012 for unspecified "hostile acts against the republic," and was sentenced to fifteen years in prison. The stakes were raised in early 2014 amid reports that Bae, who is believed to be in failing health, had been moved from a hospital to a labor camp.

David Sugarman has spoken out about the case on CNN. "You have released prisoners before, and I'm asking you to release Kenneth Bae," he said in a direct appeal to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

According to a @BringBaeBack campaign advisory on David Sugarman's website, Kenneth Bae led cultural tours of North Korea for a period of about a year, attracting people from North America, Europe, and China. His objective was to share the culture and nature of North Korea. Following his detainment and sentencing he served in a special labor camp doing hard labor. He was moved to a hospital in August 2013 suffering from diabetes, malnutrition, blurred vision and other conditions. But he was returned to the labor camp in January of 2014.

Speaking on CNN, David Sugarman raised the stakes. "Human to human, I'm asking you to release Kenneth Bae," he said, again appealing directly to Kim Jong-un. "I'm going to take it a step further: If the North Korea government actually needs somebody in North Korea, take David Sugarman. Allow me to go there. I'm younger. I'm healthier."

David Sugarman is the founder and CEO of SugarTime, Inc., a Miami, Florida-based sports agency. He is urging American citizens to get involved by re-tweeting the posts to #BringBaeBack, and to record videos showing support and uploading them to https://videoo.com/h/bringbaeback.
