David Sockol is a Florida attorney who has taken on hundreds of cases during his career, in areas as diverse as employment litigation, real estate law, and business transactions. He is a member of the St. Petersburg Bar Association and the Clearwater Bar Association, among others.

In 2012 he took on a case involving a local strip club and his client, who according to the lawsuit they filed was charged fifty thousand dollars for a single night of entertainment. David Sockol and his client says that the bill was really more like six hundred dollars.

"Within twenty minutes of him doing his six hundred dollar charge, a four thousand dollar charge was run and the bartender left a two thousand dollar tip for himself," David Sockol said at the time. "It is physically impossible for an individual by themselves to spend fifty thousand dollars over the course of three hours."

It has never been in dispute that the client was in fact in the Bliss Cabaret on the night in question, enjoying the sight of its scantily clad exotic dancers. David Sockol says that his client admits it was not his finest hour. "I think he still is nervous, and I think today he's somewhat embarrassed by being out in the limelight," he said.

But that fifty thousand dollar bar tab was simply over the top, and the lawsuit demanded that the club pay him back. David Sockol said that under State law his client stood to get much more than fifty thousand dollars. "In Florida, if someone steals something from you, you're entitled to a judgment against them for three times the amount," he said. That means that his client stood to get as much as 150,000 dollars from the club.

The Bliss Cabaret management declined to comment publicly about the case. But one of its competitors, after being apprised of the amounts involved, said that it didn't add up. "How do you spend fifty thousand dollars?" he asked. "my best night for all my customers on what they spend is usually not fifty thousand dollars."
