Curt Ellerbee and the Responsibility of Lawyers to Their Clients

Curt Ellerbee believes that lawyers should make sure they spend time working directly with their clients instead of only on the cases.

Responsibility is something that everyone has in some sense or another. When you are young, you are often given the responsibility of doing specific chores in the morning. Perhaps you have an animal, and it is your responsibility to feed it. Perhaps you are assigned to unloading the dishwasher in the morning. Whatever the case, responsibility is often upon us from a very young age.

Curt Ellerbee has spent years as a lawyer in San Diego. He loves the time he has been able to spend with his clients and to be able to settle all sorts of difference civil litigation cases has been the joy of his life.Certain professions require heartier senses of responsibility, and lawyers are one of the few sets of professionals who are expected to have their client’s best interests in mind at all times. More than most professions, lawyers are willing to bend rules and work around even the worst things to help their clients get out of whatever mess they are in.

Because of this, lawyers are required to have a greater sense of responsibility toward their clients that many other professions. A chef may feel some sense of responsibility, but one the food is out of his or her kitchen it is out of his or her hands. Curt Ellerbee, who has been a lawyer for more than twenty years, says that lawyers have an increased requirement when it comes to their sense of responsibility to their clients.
Because of this, lawyers should always be ready to set the needs of the client above their own, professionally. Obviously, this cannot take place in every case at all times, since lawyers are people and need to be allowed to have lives outside of their work, but the deep sense of responsibility can help keep them honest and ensure the best services are given to the clients.

Instead of pretending like lawyers are robots that only care about their clients, it is, therefore, important to point out specific ways in which lawyers can work on feeling an increased responsibility when it comes to their clients. One such way to go about doing this is to set aside some time at work thinking and preparing for each client individually. Each case obviously takes time on its own, but an extra five or ten minutes thinking about the client in particular can serve to lighten a lawyer’s load.
