Craig Markham, a volunteer for children and animal activist in the community of Ontario, spent 13 years with the Waterloo Regional Police and spreads awareness working to improve the community.

Craig Markham is an everyday hero who has devoted much of his life to helping others. Markham graduated from high school and immediately began working full-time in the construction industry. Knowing that he has an interest in law enforcement, he continued his full-time and began school in order to make his dreams a reality. He attended Conestoga College graduation with honors as a recipient of a Law Enforcement and Investigations Certificate. After graduation, he attended the Ontario Correctional Services College and subsequently began his career in law enforcement as a correctional officer.

Never satisfied with staying stagnant, Markham continued his career in law enforcement by entering the Ontario Police College. He graduated from the Constable training program at the top of his class with a 97.3% average and was provided training to safely and effectively perform his law enforcement duties. After more than 13 years with the department, Markham moved on with his career to help his community in other ways.

Craig Markham greatly enjoyed his career in law enforcement and continues to help in meeting the needs of Ontario’s communities that are rich in ethnic and cultural diversity. He now spends time as a martial arts instructor and volunteers as a Judo instructor for youth in his spare time. Markham also finds the time to instruct self-defense courses and enjoys working with others to help maintain the safety of the community.

Assisting in community outreach programs doesn't stop with helping youth or teaching self-defense for Markham. He also holds a particular interest in the fair treatment of animals and believes that everyone can do their part in animal welfare efforts.

Although Craig Markham has a highly impressive past in his academics, professional career in law enforcement, and his extracurricular/volunteer activities, anyone can make a difference in the lives of others and help make his or her community great. Markham knows that each member of the community holds a special place and could make all the difference if the diverse community members were able to come together and offer their talents and time to help others and build upon the foundation already set by members of law enforcement and local organizations.
