Finding success in life is a journey, one that is full of good times and bad ones, successes and failures. Success entails learning from experiences, and utilizing the opportunities that one comes across in the daily life. Often, how you respond to the negative situations and pick yourself up plays a big role in your ability to reach your dreams.

Born to Samantha and Jeremy Smargiassi, Brian Smargiassi has come to appreciate how far he has come in life. He credits much of his childhood experiences for molding him, and the lessons he learned back then allowed him to grow and embrace challenges. Before he settled as a landscape painter, Brian had to test his skills in various other areas. Each previous profession, whether as a lumberjack or working in an engineering company, had its own challenges and lessons to learn from. In all, Brian acknowledges that the sum of his experiences played a big role in helping him find success.

You define your own success, Brian says. No one else can build it for you. In his younger years, Brian’s father often took him to the forest reservation he worked at. It was during these trips that Brian came to love nature. Years later, this love for nature would spur him to pursue landscape painting as a career. While it took many years, Brian came to this realization on his own. He wasn’t pushed into it. He turned a hobby into a career, and he did it largely on his own. You have to figure out what you want to achieve, and how you can make do with what you have.

There is no reason you shouldn’t succeed. For Brian, working and painting outdoors is not only his career but also his life. If you follow your passion and dedicate the time and effort required, then it is only a matter of time before you start accomplishing your goals. Patience is required in any endeavor, Brian Smargiassi advices. It might be weeks, months or even years before you see some progress. However, determination will go a long way in ensuring you achieve your dreams.
