Immokalee resident and community leader Bernardo Barnhart is excited about the events lined up for this year’s harvest festival.

Every year, the small town of Immokalee, Florida gets together to celebrate its agricultural heritage and conclusion of the harvest season in a festival known as the Immokalee Harvest Festival. The event is promoted by the Immokalee Chamber of Commerce, of which resident and local community leader Bernardo Barnhart is a member.

This year, the Immokalee Harvest Festival will be held on March 28 at the Immokalee Airport Park, with lots of activities lined up for the town’s residents and visitors. There are plans to have at least two stages to cater for national, regional and local entertainment. Event organizers anticipate more than 6,000 attendees, many of whom will have a chance to enjoy the harvest parade and harvest festival pageant.

In years past, the Harvest Festival Pageant has been a big draw with the young ladies of the community. This year, as the pageant looks to select new holders of the Jr. Miss and Sr. Miss Queen, it is inviting all interested participants to get in touch with the organizers in due time. Eligible contestants are between the ages of 12 and 18, and should be able to demonstrate a talent for the judges.

Apart from the beauty pageant, the festival also hosts a parade that features agricultural floats and entries. The marching band from Immokalee High School also dazzles with its musical talent, with many of its members eagerly looking forward to putting on a good show. Other local organizations will also participate in this year’s events, including the local firefighter association, elementary schools and local churches.

Having grown up in the town, Bernardo Barnhart is looking forward to enjoying this year’s Harvest Festival, and anticipates it will be a notch higher than previous years. As a member of the chamber of commerce, he is responsible for ensuring a smooth and organized event. He knows that a lot of the residents are looking forward to enjoying the event, which also culminates as a celebration of a good harvest.

Similar to previous years, proceeds from the event will go towards scholarships for deserving Immokalee High School students in their pursuit of higher education.
