Andrea Trisdale is a volunteer at Austin Pets Alive!, an Austin, Texas animal shelter that maintains programs designed to save animals and reduce the number of homeless pets that might otherwise end up being euthanized.

She participates in a program called RuffTail Runners, for which she takes dogs from their kennels and gets them out on trails, at least for a little while. RuffTail Runners enables her to combine her interest in animals with her passion for long distance running.

Andrea Trisdale also takes part in the Bottle Baby Feeders program. "We feed and care for motherless kittens that would not survive otherwise," she explains. The kittens in the program are all rescue kittens who range in age from just a day or so, up to about eight weeks. The bottle baby program has contributed greatly to Austin's status as a no-kill city, which in February of 2015 marked four years since adopting its no-kill policy. "I love animals," she says, "and want to do my part to reduce to homeless animal population and support Austin being a no-kill city."

As Andrea Trisdale knows, a no-kill community is one that has a live outcome rate of ninety percent or better. That is a nationally accepted standard. Austin Pets Alive! helped to create and lobby for the city's no-kill plan, which the Austin City Council passed in early 2010. Since reaching the ninety percent benchmark in February of 2011, the city has earned the reputation and title of being the largest no-kill city in the United States.

Andrea Trisdale believes that it is important the Austin continues with this policy. It isn't easy; maintaining the no-kill policy is proving to be just as hard as, and take as much passion and dedication, as it took to achieve that status in the first place.

When she isn't volunteering as a RuffTail Runner or a Bottle Baby feeder, Andrea Trisdale is either selling and leasing real estate at Urban Squared Realty, or pursuing her other great passion in life, painting. She is a talented and enthusiastic artist who produces original works, and also accepts commission requests. As she says, she is open to creating all types of art.
