Alumnus Peter Lord of Canbet Comments on Visit by NSW Governor Bashir to University of Wollongong

Governor Marie Bashir visits University of Wollongong and alumnus and business director Peter Lord of Canbet responds positively

 
Early in June, New South Wales Governor Marie Bashir visited the University of Wollongong. She described the school as “a jewel in the Illawarra” and one of the premier universities in Australia. Governor Bashir attended events around campus and met with students and administrators. Alumnus Peter Lord of Canbet responded to the event, celebrating the important visit for local businesses and the future of the university.

Peter Lord of Canbet has served as a leading business consultant in the Wollongong area for years. Born and raised in Wollongong, Peter Lord of Canbet developed a strong association with the region and has spent most of his life working in the area. Peter Lord of Canbet also volunteers as a surf life saver and junior rugby league coach as a way to show his commitment to his hometown.

In the 1990s, Peter Lord of Canbet earned his Bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Wollongong. He recalls his time at the university as being fun, but also full of learning and personal growth. Peter Lord of Canbet notes that for him, it took work to be successful at school. He studied hard to earn his degree. During his college career at University of Wollongong, Peter Lord of Canbet focused on the process and skills of transferring knowledge through the art of teaching, which has given him the solid foundation needed to coach young athletes.

Peter Lord of Canbet builds off skills he acquired during his time at University of Wollongong in the department of Education. Critical thinking, leadership, and communication are important skills that transferred smoothly from the education setting into business planning and management. Alumnus Peter Lord of Canbet strongly identifies with the University of Wollongong’s motto — Visionary, Dynamic, Passionate. He knows all three characteristics are essential for a successful business career and happy life.

In response to Governor Bashir’s visit to the university Peter Lord of Canbet said, “I am happy to see University of Wollongong get the recognition it deserves.” He believes the faculty and researchers at the university are doing excellent work both teaching and publishing their own studies. Peter Lord of Canbet added that he “hopes that this publicity will bring more success to the region.”

Peter Lord of Canbet is proud to call University of Wollongong his alma mater and is excited about the future of the institution. New South Wales Governor Bashir noticed the visionary work being done at University of Wollongong and said the trip made her optimistic about the future of Australia.
