When Alex Funicello was just a young child, he had decided he wanted to put his smarts to good use and have a lasting, positive impact on the lives of others. This mentality led to his decision to want to become a doctor at a very young age. In many of his elementary school projects growing up, he recognized with being a doctor as his number one career choice. And throughout his entire upbringing, he was steadfast in sticking to that decision.

Then came high school, a pivotal point in the lives of many; and Alex Funicello’s last years of adolescence were no different. His family was struck with tragedy throughout that period, as a close relative had fallen ill with a late diagnosis in lung cancer; one that was far too late for any kind of effective treatment. In this moment was when Alex Funicello had decided to focus his desire to enter the medical field into the narrower field of pulmonology. Now he just needed a means to get there; and after a swift our years in undergraduate studies, he had been accepted into the Baylor School of Medicine. What he got from Baylor was even more than he had anticipated.

Not only did he do well in his studies and earn his doctoral degree on time, but he had also met the woman who would later become his wife. Right as they were graduating, she had taken a residency in Fresno; and Alex Funicello decided to follow. He found his own jobs in the field, and eventually gained the credentials necessary to open up his own practice. That was over fifteen years ago. Now, he has a strong reputation as a doctor who helps his patients and is often accurate with his diagnoses and treatments. While not every lung ailment is curable, he has been effective in curbing the symptoms of the more serious ones and helping provide his patients with longer, healthier lives. And that, for him and his patients, is a career worth celebrating.
