At the University School of Nova Southeastern University, students are known to excel in the academics, theater, music, and athletics. Kurtis Gubnitsky was an athlete during his time at the University School of NSU, and he played on many different sports teams.

However, track and field was where Kurtis Gubnitsky truly excelled. Kurtis Gubnitsky was on the varsity track and field team, as well as the varsity cross country team. A superb runner, Kurtis Gubnitsky made significant improvements in his times throughout high school. Over the course of about one year, Kurtis Gubnitsky dropped his time in the 5000m race from 24:02 to 22:21:02.

When asked about his high school athletic accomplishments, Kurtis Gubnitsky stated, “Track and field was the best part of my high school experience. It provided me with a positive influence that was fun and rewarding.” Kurtis Gubnitsky competed in many successful races with the University School of NSU’s track and field team. Along with Kurtis Gubnitsky, the team participated in races such as the Broward County Championship, the Westminster Academy Invitational, and the FHSAA 2A District 8. Kurtis Gubnitsky’s best time was at the Broward County Championship, where he ran a 5000m in 22:21:02 and placed 36th.

As a high school athlete, Kurtis Gubnitsky also joined various other teams at the University School of NSU. Kurtis Gubnitsky played lacrosse, football, and junior varsity soccer. When he was younger, Kurtis Gubnitsky also took part in basketball and flag football. A soccer player since childhood, Kurtis Gubnitsky has always known that he enjoyed all types of athletics. Kurtis Gubnitsky spent much of his time in high school juggling various athletic events, along with his academics and community service projects.

Not only did Kurtis Gubnitsky play sports in high school, but he also did some coaching. Kurtis Gubnitsky volunteered as a lacrosse coach for the lower and middle school students at the University School of NSU. A student in the high school, Kurtis Gubnitsky provided instruction in lacrosse while in the tenth grade. Kurtis Gubnitsky is very proud of his high school athletic accomplishments, particularly those for track and field.
