Time flies when you’re having fun, and for James Huneke the years have simply flown by. It seems like just yesterday when James Huneke was a young lad beginning his tennis career, and now here it is 25 years later. It is almost hard to believe, James Huneke reflects.

“I mean, you think about it, and it’s hard to really even comprehend,” James Huneke was quoted as saying. “Twenty-five years as a tennis player, coach, instructor and pro. I’m not even old yet!”

This year marks the twenty-fifth year of James Huneke’s membership in the United States Tennis Association (USTA), the premier tennis association in the country. James Huneke has been a member since the days of his youth, when he was just a bright young star with a lot of promise. Since that time, James Huneke has grown into a success story, a respected educator, a coach, and former professional at the Rochester Athletic Club in Rochester, MN. But James Huneke has never forgotten his roots.

“I still remember being a young, uneducated player,” James Huneke recalls. “I’m glad I had the coaches I did to help guide me along the way and to help me mature. I like to think that I’m able to offer a similar experience to the next generation, to pay it forward in a way. I hope that’s what I’m doing.”

In addition to being a respected pro and coach, James Huneke is also an outstanding P.E. teacher who has been a former P.E. Teacher of the Year. Yet he has always been humble about it all. “I don’t see anything to get a big head about,” James Huneke was quoted as saying. “Of course I am proud of my achievements, but at the same time I know that other people are doing the same thing all the time. I like to think that I am doing well, but I wouldn’t want to think I was better than anyone else.”

It’s quite a refreshing attitude, which reflects in everything that James Huneke does, from his coaching to his teaching.
