St. Andrew Catholic Church in Sumner announces the first annual Live Nativity with a Las Posadas Christmas procession and celebration on Friday, December 20th. The event, which also includes Christmas treats, music and an outdoor fire pit, is free and open to the public.
The Nativity Celebration includes:
5:00 pm Las Posadas procession around the church grounds.
5:30 pm Live Nativity begins.
6:00 pm to 9:00 pm Christmas Creche Exhibit will be on display in St. Charles de Foucauld hall building across from the church.
6:00 pm to 9:00 pm the church is open for confession while joyful music plays.
Outside the church there will be Christmas treats and a fire pit to gather for fellowship.
Las Posadas is a religious celebration that commemorates the journey that Joseph and Mary made from Nazareth to Bethlehem in search of a location where Mary could give birth to the baby Jesus. When there was no room at the inn, they sought shelter in a stable where the Christ Child was born. This is the scene that is depicted in the live Nativity.
In addition to the Nativity story, the church will also be hosting a Christmas Creche Exhibit displaying different Nativity sets from all over the world. Parishioners from the St. Andrew congregation will be bringing in their personal nativities to share for the evening so others can view and enjoy what makes Christmas special to them.
“This event is turning into such a blessing and we are so excited to start this annual tradition with a joyous celebration at St. Andrew,” said Amanda Brannon, Pastoral Assistant for Finance & Administration at St. Andrew Church. “All are welcome to join our parish community for the entire evening or to simply drive by and see the live Nativity from the comfort of their car.”
After the Nativity, the church will be open with music until 9 pm. Catholics are welcome to participate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation and can choose from any of the six Priests that will be available to hear confessions in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese languages.
Outside the church there will be a fire pit to gather with others and Christmas treats including Mexican sweet breads (Pan Dulce), coffee, tea, and hot cocoa for those with a sweet tooth.
