New Episodic Comedy About Residential Life Helps Students Connect Without Updating Their Facebook Status

LOS ANGELES, CA - These days, the topic of connecting is typically defaulted to social media, but Co-Writers Bonnie Sludikoff and Christopher Schamber imagine a world where young people can express themselves without having to come up with a creative 140 character statement delivered across the interweb. Bayberry Hall, the long-awaited web-series about Residential Life, premiered this week on YouTube! The 15-episode series follows the lives of four Resident Advisors: Jamie (Matt Lara), Cho (Narisa Suzuki), Scott (Nikolai Fernandez), and Darcy (Bonnie Sludikoff), as they navigate their college experiences while trying to serve as role models for their peers.

The show has been compared to influences such as Scrubs and Modern Family, but finds much of its dynamic through a strong sampling of popular genres, including mockumentary, fantasy, musical and more. Additionally, the cast and crew will be partnering with local non-profit organizations to present a series of interviews and conversations (“Bayberry Hall-Pass”) geared toward making some difficult topics more approachable for young people.

Sludikoff, a full-time writer who also founded up-and-coming non-profit campaign That's What She Didn't Say, felt compelled to create a piece of art that was not only entertaining, but socially conscious. "On the surface, Bayberry Hall is a comedy about life in college, but it's also the story of four individuals hired to connect with others who are each struggling to connect in their own lives for a variety of reasons. We live in a disconnected society. For many, the most powerful source of communication is a heartfelt Facebook status. It's scary to think of how we're stunting future generations of the innate need and ability to connect in person."

Schamber, a recent UCLA Grad and recent dorm dweller, is excited to share this series with the world, from "awkward moments to great laughs to powerful revelations," the series is certainly one that caters to a wide crowd.

With the expertise of Gary Schamber and set pieces donated by Universal and Warner Brothers, the dorm set was an asset to the cast and crew of this production and all were grateful to have use of the Annex with the permission of the Canyon Theatre Guild.

In addition to several experienced and brilliant actors and directors, Schamber and Sludikoff were pleased to work with up-and-coming DP, Chelsea Mayer, who also created the series "WESTWOOD GIRL." With several feature credits under her belt, Mayer proved deserving of her role in this pivotal production when she looked at the ambitious shoot schedule and said, "This is definitely doable - I always get things done even faster than planned."
