Extreme Depth, Certified for 8,000 Feet; Used to Film "Shark Week"

Jensen Beach, FL – Group B Distribution, Inc., designer and manufacturer of specialized extreme depth underwater housings for Point of View cameras, announced today that it is introducing the GoBenthic, an underwater camera housing for use with the GoPro Hero 3, 3+ and 4. GoBenthic has been certified for use in depths of up to 8,000 feet (2,600 meters). It was used to film sequences in the recent television special, “Shark Week” on the Discovery Channel.

“Over 95% of the ocean is unexplored” said Frank Betoulaud “We created the Go Benthic to allow anyone access to deeper waters and perhaps, discover new species and uncharted shipwrecks. Combined with our underwater stabilizer, Go Benthic can be lowered into the water with a rope or even a fishing rod.”

The GoBenthic was tested on four continents by major universities, ocean research centers, commercial fishermen, and various military and governmental branches. During these deployments, the housings allowed scientists and researchers to record new discoveries at extreme depth. The GoBenthic is carved from a solid block of 6061 Aircraft Aluminum. This material and manufacturing process gives the underwater housing great strength and resiliency. The metal is fully anodized for high resistance against the corrosive effects of saltwater. In addition to depth certification the Go Benthic is certified for 243 ATM, 24.6 MPA or 3,500 PSI (250 Kg/cm2). The housing is bulletproof, having been tested with small caliber guns. It is manufactured in Florida.

Ease of access in the 3.125" X 2.375" X 2.125" Go Benthic is augmented through Mini-USB/HDMI ports in an internal pocket. The housing features a large, thick acrylic lens to resist direct greater impact. GoBenthic features two mounting points for maximum flexibility in choosing the video camera's field of view. It is deep enough for a secondary battery, an optional LCD display or a WiFi backpack.

Reaction to the GoBenthic from the scientific community has been very positive. Pre-launch buyers view the GoBenthic as the most cost effective solution to get visual data at extreme depth. Its overall compactness is non-intrusive to wildlife. GoBenthic is also used in manned submersibles, UUV and ROV. The GoBenthic housing can be drilled to accept a waterproof connector. Professional filmmakers and engineers can use the GoBenthic to get footage that would otherwise destroy a GoPro. Fishermen and marine archeologists can also use it to see what is below the water cost-effectively.
