Nationwide - Eric Pertnoy has worked hard to establish his own business and because of his hard work, he is able to be available to his family each day. Eric Pertnoy does not spend hours commuting or traveling all over the country for work. Instead, he is at a Boy Scout meeting or picking up his son from school. Eric Pertnoy and his wife decided long before their son was born that if he could not be there, why have a child?
Eric Pertnoy’s flexible work schedule has made him a bit of a celebrity in his son’s elementary school. He is able to volunteer his time in the Parent-Teacher Association and in the school’s small library. This is predominantly handled by the mothers in the community and it is obvious that they like having a man around. “Eric Pertnoy brings another perspective when we are planning school fundraisers and a bit of muscle when we are transporting boxes of supplies!” says PTA president.
“I am so happy to have a voice and presence in my son’s life, which is so opposite of how I grew up. My father was always working and out of the house,” states Eric Pertnoy. Eric Pertnoy wanted his child to really know him and not just see him on the weekends. It is not easy in these economic times to have a situation that works such as this, but the benefits are tremendous.
“Everyone knows my dad and my dad knows everyone,” says Eric Pertnoy’s eight-year-old son with a smile. It is clear that he is proud of this fact and has a certain confidence as a result. “I think it is even more crucial for us because we have an only child,” says Eric Pertnoy’s wife. “Growing up without siblings, his relationship with his parents is crucial. As a boy, his relationship with his father is very special to him.”
Eric Pertnoy will continue to volunteer at the school and spend time with his son whenever he can. He will keep his flexible schedule for as long as he can so that he can continue to be involved in his son’s life.
