Bruce Heen knows that many people put a strong emphasis on developing and growing a successful professional career, but he knows it is equally important to enjoy moments outside the office to grow on a personal level.

South Birmingham, Alabama - Bruce Heen knows that many people dedicate a large amount of time thinking about their careers. People think about these things when they are at work and when they leave the office. Even people who don’t work in an office may spend many hours outside of work thinking about their jobs. However, Bruce Heen understands that while work is important, it is also important to find other things to get involved in.

“I’ve been involved in a number of associations and groups throughout my life. For instance at one point in the past, I was president of Sunshine Chapter of IASA,” says Bruce Heen; IASA being the Insurance Accounting and Systems Association. As a student, between 1972 and 1977 Bruce Heen was a “member of National Order of Elks which is a charitable fraternal order. They provide scholarships and help veterans. It is also invitation only.”

Other memberships that Bruce Heen has been a part of include the Cimmaron Golf Club where he was a member between 1998 and 2002. Between 2010 and 2011, Bruce Heen was a member of the University of Alabama Parents Association. And while it is not a membership, Bruce Heen was also a season ticket holder for the Atlanta Falcons while he lived in Atlanta, Georgia.

“It is important to get involved in groups outside of the work place. They may be church groups, book clubs, community projects, or charity organizations. It is important to have an identity outside of work,” says Bruce Heen. And Bruce Heen knows that it can be hard to take your mind off of work at times. He has worked hard during the years of his career and has held several vice president positions for various companies.

Bruce Heen knows it is natural to put a strong focus on your career. However, Bruce Heen has also enjoyed the memberships and activities he’s been involved in outside of work. Each membership and involvement helped Bruce Heen grow as an individual, as well as give him an identity that didn’t relate strictly to his career title.

About: Bruce Heen believes people should involve themselves in organizations not only to be social, but to expand their lives into more areas.
