Leni Thio is well studied and is now bringing her music to you.

Her songs are about many varying topics so her songs are in no way boring. They bring about a uniqueness which is rarely found amongst musicians of this modern age. Typically what you hear on the radio is entirely cookie-cutter however, Thio’s passion and songwriting brings a new level of variety. Her songs cover major issues like racism and war, such as the Syrian conflict. They also review lighter subject like holidays and fashion trends. She makes these songs even more interesting with her well practiced voice. She uses both classical and modern songs as inspiration. Also, her Japanese background comes through in her pieces.

Her first song draws from that background; it’s titled B-Style. The song is titled for the cultural phenomenon in Japan which mimics the style of modern African-American’s. It is a look that involved cornrows, baggie jeans and loose hanging shirts with backwards caps. Bikini Girl is the next song on the list. It is a fun sounding song with a serious message about tragedy. She, bikini girl, is a victim of that tragedy. Black & White is a song about the racial divide between white persons and black persons. It asks for the senselessness to end. She addresses these two races specifically in this album multiple times. Every Girl’s Dream paints a picture of pink. While living in a Barbie Dream home is not every girl’s idea of happiness the song is very fun and does create a wonderful fantasy world. It is a world which is much prettier than the real world she has been depicting in her previous more serious songs.

The next fun song on the playlist is Halloween. It’s a song appreciating the holiday and just how enjoyable it is. The sound is a bit different to suit the holiday. I’m in Love is the next piece. It is a return to her original sound. It’s a nice simple love song that hints towards typical song topics and a reminder of this albums rarity. Love & Peace is a political type of song asking for peace in war and the Syrian conflict. The next piece is a much more cheery holiday song, Merry Merry Christmas. It has the same tone as Halloween. Then there is a return to seriousness with Don’t Waste My Time. It is serious in how she is straightforward about how she doesn’t like her time to be wasted. She doesn’t like her time to be wasted because life is precious and there is only so much time you have to live it.

Leni Thio creates an album about many varying topics that makes for a unique piece which keeps the listener very interested. The joy of holidays and the fantasy world of the Barbie Dream House are a few of the up-lifting topics. The seriousness of war and racism is another two of the topics. Her Japanese style and other influences create the glue that laces the topics together and makes for an interesting and full album.
