Various Components of Printer Ink: A Quick Look

The following press release talks all about the printer’s ink. It is about the various components of the printer ink and tells what the HP ink program is.

Printer ink is made of carbon black which is a pigment more or less similar to the soot which was used in the ancient time. The composition also includes a solvent, a binder and plenty of additives, such as drying agents. The ink recipes vary and depend on the brand of the company you are using and on the printing method you are using.

Pigments:

The chief function of the pigment is to provide color to the ink. Pigments can also bring gloss and abrasiveness to the surface and provide full chemical resistance to the light, solvents, and heat. This is an important part of the printer’s ink.

Base pigments are blended with a number of chemicals that are known as extenders or opacifiers. These are white and can cause the ink to turn opaque. It also covers the entire surface. Extenders are clear and are used for making the base pigments look more intensive. Whether it is HP printer ink or the ink of any non-brand, the process remains the same. All the pigments are grounded up for preventing clumping and to enable the ink to spread in a uniform manner throughout.

Dispersants:

Dispersants are added in the ink so that it can flow well and can be easily transferred to the surface during the printing process. Dispersants are used for stabilizing the pigments of particles by lowering the mechanical energy which is required for the grinding. There are polymers and surfactants also that are used as suspended in any solvent. They absorb the pigment particles and form a fine coating which varies in thickness as well as in composition for preventing the fine pigment particles from settling. Different sizes of the pigments can influence the intensity of any color.

Resins:

Resins are added to the ink for the purpose of binding distinct film together. These materials improve nor only binding but also the mechanical properties and rheology also in the ink. Resins like alkyds, ketones, formaldehyde, and acrylics are used for printing and creating surfaces that are glossy and resistant to water, heat, and chemicals.

To participate in the HP Ink Program, you need to enroll in the HP instant ink eligible printer. Printer instantly sends an ink level to the company and whenever your printer runs out of link, replacement ink cartridges will be sent to you.
