Paras Patna empowers the public with a social media campaign - #TambakuSeyAzadi #SpitOutCancer

Paras HMRI Hospital Patna and Paras Cancer Centre, Patna – Bihar’s first comprehensive cancer care centre - launched a nafionwide social media campaign to sensifise the populafion on the risks, causes and treatment of Oral Cancer. The inifiafive was supported by various social media influencers who trended the hashtags #SpitOutCancer and #TambakuSeyAzadi . The campaign gathered more than 20,000 tweets, re-tweets and follower interest.

The campaign also included selfies with boards that highlighted the support for the campaign. Doctors of Paras Cancer Centre shared their advice through informative videos highlighfing the importance of quifing the deadly habit. According of Dr Rajeev Sharan, Sr Consultant and Chief of Head and Neck Oncology, “Bihar is the oral cancer capital of the country and with every passing day the prevalence is increasing. Ignorance and carelessness towards ones health are giving more flight to the disease. As medical experts it is our responsibility to create awareness about the ill effects of tobacco use and addicfion.”
According to Dr Mitali Dhandekar Lall , Consultant Head and Neck Surgical Oncology, “ Bihar is under a spate of rising oral cancer cases. 65% of the populafion – including all age groups- eats khaini, gutka, pan masala and smokes cigare5es in Bihar. The young generation has to be told that tobacco use can create a lot of health issues – cardiac and cancer risk predominantly.”
The social media campaign is a part of an outreach program to create more awareness about prevenfive aspects associated with cancer. It is a part of an elaborate cancer prevention campaign to be launched by Paras Cancer Centre.
