The paintings make one stop and consider the never-ending chase after material gain and various items which very soon end up in a garbage heap. More and more often, we see our contemporaries mercilessly exploit natural resources and human relations alike, treating them as disposable items.
‘With this series, I encourage the viewer to adopt a more conscious attitude towards the world around us, to think of the possible ways of helping the environment, whether by cutting down consumption or simply by being more considerate and caring. After all, we are one with nature. We must realise the importance of preserving all forms of life and restoring our spiritual link to our true source,’ maintains Ms. Marina Fedorova.
Most paintings feature women who, according to the Artist, play a special social and spiritual role in the society. Women symbolise fertility, life, and the passing-on of traditions. The woman as mother and divine principle is the central figure of the Trash Madonna painting. She is pictured with folded hands, no longer holding a baby, her face covered with a protective mask. No beaming smile or tender eyes are to be seen. She is now the patron of the new poisonous times.
In addition to paintings, the Artist created an eponymous Trash Madonna sculpture. Stepping beyond the confines of a two-dimensional space, the vision becomes real. It is yet another expression of the Artist’s reaction to the present-day reality and current trends.
