Exhibition by Ms. Marina Fedorova. COSMODREAMS Project: Patriotism Series

Posted February 16, 2021 by Press-service

The Patriotism series is one of the six thematic clusters of the COSMODREAMS exhibition project by the Artist Ms. Marina Fedorova.

With her Patriotism series, Ms. Marina Fedorova sought to express her deep-rooted senesce of patriotism and love for her country and appreciation of its historic legacy. The main protagonists of these paintings are women, reminding us of the extraordinary human endeavors during the space quest. It is a celebration of the heroic female astronauts: Valentina Tereshkova, Svetlana Savitskaya, and Elena Serova. Their commitment and dedication have been and still are justly admired by several generations.

Central to the series is the Flying Lady sculpture. The three-dimensional figure of a young girl symbolizes movement, determination, strength, and renewal for the country. The girl is shown reaching upward, as if about to soar above the clouds towards the new and the unknown.

Reflecting on the serious issues of our historical heritage, Ms. Marina Fedorova nevertheless manages to retain her signature sense of humor. The female protagonist of the Space Laundry painting, for instance, just like the new Snow-White waiting for the return of her space dwarfs, is seen washing spacesuits and hanging them out to dry.

‘What I wished to stress is the modern world’s urgent need for renewal: after all, things are changing very fast, and we must keep up with these changes. The new generation needs a new symbolic representation of their motherland: whereas in the past it was crafted by the Soviet artists, now it is evoked by the contemporary ones,’ comments Ms. Marina Fedorova.

The artworks from the Patriotism series will be on display at Erarta Museum from 8 September.
