Attention wildlife lovers! Mumbai to host the Tadoba Mahotsav
Maharashtra is blessed with nature’s bounty, adding to its scope for tourism. In its one-of-its-kind initiative, State Government of Maharashtra is planning ‘Tadoba Mahotsav’ festival in Mumbai, between the last week of February and the first week of March, to sensitize eco-tourism in Tadoba and to promote local livelihood. http://www.pothik.co.in/best_tour_and_travel_agency_in_kolkata
The decision of organizing the festival is taken by the Forest Minister of Maharashtra, Sudhir Mungantiwar, at Vidhan Bhavan on Wednesday. Other members who are a part of the decision-making committee are the Vikas Kharage (Forest Secretary), Valsa Nair Singh (Tourism Secretary) and AK Jha (Director General of Social Forestry). An official of the Tadoba Tiger Reserve says that the Tadoba Mahotsav will be organized to promote local tourism in a way that benefit local communities of not just Tadoba but all tiger reserves and wildlife sanctuaries of the state. http://www.pothik.co.in/bengali_magazine
Forest official further adds that the theme of the cultural programmes will be based on tribal communities in the periphery of forests. One of the main components of the ecotourism is to involve local people and give them a sense of ownership and profit-sharing. In the initial meetings, organizing committee has decided that business meetings, exhibitions and the cultural programmes will take place during the festival.
Dates and programme schedule of the event are yet to be finalized, but for the venue Gateway of India is being considered as an option. NGO’S, social organizations, tour operators, travel writers, bloggers and wildlife conversationalist from different parts of the country will be a part of this festival.
