On Thursday Brijesh Patel, the IPL chairman said that everything related to hosting the richest cricket league will be discussed in the council meeting on Saturday. In his interaction with India Today, he shared the reasons of holding this meeting.

The story

In the wake of corona virus, the authorities hosting events or any mass gatherings all over the world are taking steps as precautions. A number of sporting events are being affected for the same. The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League is already under threat of this disease which has been declared as pandemic by the World Health Organization. Reportedly the IPL Governing Council will be meeting on March 14, Saturday in meeting to discuss the fate of the upcoming league.

IPL this year is scheduled to begin on March 29 with the clash of the titans, Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. Meanwhile, as per Government instructions, all foreign passports apart from a few categories have been levied till April 15. This means, the foreign players taking part in the league will not be available till Mid of April.

What Patel says,

When asked about the current status of IPL and whether there is a chance of postponed league, Brijesh Patel said to India today, "Yes, the Governing Council is going to meet. There are other issues as well to be discussed in the meeting. We are having a meeting that is why. Everything (related to coronavirus) will be discussed in the meeting."

There is also a possibility of closed-door games. On Thursday the remaining matches of the Road Safety Series 2020 have been shifted to Mumbai and the third leg of the series have been declared to be behind the doors. So, there is an increasing demand and speculations as well of hosting the IPL in the same manner. Patel opined on the same saying, "Everything will be discussed. Even the press will have a problem. You can't have 100 guys in the press box."
