Videocon Telecom Ltd (VTL) has narrowed operating loss to Rs 25.9 crore for the fiscal third quarter to December 2015 from Rs 44.4 crore in the year-ago period, buoyed by strong data revenue growth and subscriber additions in key markets.

The Venugopal Dhoot-owned mobile carrier reported a 22% growth in consolidated revenue to Rs 585 crore in the October-December quarter.

The consolidated top line number aggregates the Telco’s earnings from the GSM, carrier and wire line businesses, the company said in a statement Wednesday.

Videocon Telecom also reported a 20% growth in net revenue of its standalone GSM business, which has shrunk after the company sold its 4G airwaves in UP-West and Gujarat to No 3 carrier, Idea Cellular, last November, in what was the country's first spectrum trading deal.

The 20% spurt in net revenue of its GSM operations was "propelled by a 28% increase in subscriber base, a 16.5% improvement in its NRPM or `net rate per minute' and 76% growth in data revenues over the year-ago period.

Videocon Telecom director & CEO Arvind Bali said "the company's operating losses have gone down by 42% and all KPIs, be it grosses level or unit level, and look promising".

Bali said that the company would be "Ebitda positive in Haryana by the end of the current fiscal and would achieve the same milestone in Madhya Pradesh-Chattisgarh in the first quarter of 2016-17".

Between January and December 2015, Videocon Telecom added 5.14 lakh, 3.04 lakh and 9.06 lakh subscribers in Punjab, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh circles respectively, the company said in a media statement.

Videocon Telecom, easily among the smallest Telco’s in India, has been trying to exit the spectrum-dependent mobility business for a while and has been exploring selling its airwaves through the trading route, rules for which were announced last year.
