Gone are the days where people only buy clothes, books, and makeup items online. Even when it comes to the purchasing of daily food, people amid the pandemic are increasingly relying on online food shopping. A new survey showed that online food buying from PJ Foods is more than twice the number of people currently purchasing products online.
Several surveys have shown that online food shopping in recent months has risen.
Although research showed 76 percent growth in the food market online in comparison with last year, another study found that 80 percent purchased food for convenience rather than for price online. Because of the pandemic and lockdown, PJ Foods even began to supply food online. In comparison, the order delivery prices of Amazon and Flipkart rose. As per the report, PJ Foods estimates that its new client acquisition has tripled with pre-COVID, with new consumer cohort retention increasing by 60 percent, since March.
In recent months, online food shopping applications have been working together with kiranas and even producers to market local food and produce. Over the last few months, the e-grocery industry in India has expanded rapidly since customers have ordered online food and fresh items. People experimented in their kitchens after the lock-down and now the WFH and thus supermarkets ordered. And the sales of ingredients for traditional Indian dishes have risen not just in pasta or cakes.
