During an interview with CNBC’s Kelly Evans, Dong Nguyen told that he was planning to launch the new version of flappy bird online, in August 2014. He further told during his interview, that this new version will feature multiplayer game and it will be less addictive as compared to the original version. Dong had pulled down the original version because according to him, it was highly addictive and people were not playing the game just for fun. He was of the opinion that the high level of addiction was not good for people and that is why he pulled it down from the application stores. It was a sudden and unexpected decision because at that time the game was the most popular application.
It had been reported earlier that Dong is an introvert person and the culture in which be lives, was quite different from the one in European countries. Dong never wanted to be the focus of discussion. Basically, he avoids social groups and does not like frequent interaction with people. Interestingly enough, the creator of flappy bird online never shared with his parents that his application had become the most popular application in the world. Dong’s parents became aware of the situation when he had planned to pull it back from the stores. It seems to be strange enough, because the game was earning a huge amount of money for Dong. No one in the world would reject the amount of money, which Dong was receiving. Before eliminating the game back in February 2014, Dong’s tweet “Please give me peace” says it all. He would never have expected this level of popularity and it ultimately made him depressed.
During March 2014, during an interview with Rolling Stone, Dong told that he never expected the level of attention which he received from the media. He also confessed that many players shared their views about the addictive level of the game. He said that such views made me disturbed mentally. He shared a message from a woman in which she told Dong that his game was distracting the children of the world. Such views forced Dong to think about removing flappy bird online from the application stores. Dong also said during the interview that he himself suffered during his school days because he could not concentrate on his studies due to the addiction to video games. Dong confessed that he felt guilty that his product was addictive. Hundreds of game developers tried to copy the game in order to grab the market. It seems that the return of the game will grab the attention back once again. Dong himself once said that people will make the clones of his game, but there will never be another flappy bird. Dong is also working on some other games. He has mentioned that one of his games will feature a character jumping from one building to the next. According to him, this game has the potential to earn a huge level of success. Though, Dong has not yet revealed the name of his upcoming game.
