Diving in Larnaca is undoubtedly the best wreck dive location in the world. In addition to the world-famous wreck of the MS Zenobia, a new wreck, The Elpida, was sunk deliberately in 2019, to form part of an artificial reef. Other popular dive sites in Larnaca include the HMS Cricket, The Alexandria, Champagne Wreck, Barge Wreck, Pyla Caves, and The Arches. Pissouri Bay Divers undertake diving excursions to the wreck of the Swedish-built Zenobia, a Roll Roll vessel that sank due to technical issues controlling the ballast tanks in 1980 on her voyage to Syria. The wreck offers awe-inspiring sights. Stretching across an impressive 172 meters, it offers a thrilling and challenging dive for experienced divers, who are often mesmerized by the vibrant marine life that has made the Zenobia their home.

Divers are taken to out to the wreck by a boat that used to be a fire tender on the Thames in London. There are 2 dives with a long break in the middle, which offers relaxation time and a scrumptious barbeque lunch. The Elpida, a 63m long cargo vessel of Greek origin, was sunk 1 mile from the coast of Larnaca and lies on the sea bed to a depth of 30 meters, suitable for all levels of diving with the uppermost deck at 15 meters, the rear deck around 18 meters. The cargo area starts at a depth of 20 meters, offering various safe penetration routes throughout the wreck, from the bridge through to the engine room.
The new artificial reef is a pioneering idea in Larnaca and was co-financed by the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund from 2014 to 2020. The establishment of the reef allowed flourishing marine life, adding to Larnaca’s existing dive propositions.
