Málaga, March 16, 2025 – In an interview with El Mundo, director Julio Medem confirmed that his upcoming film, Minotaur, Picasso, and the Women of Guernica, is now ready for its 2026 release.
Currently in Málaga to present his latest work, 8, Medem revealed that this film was initially set to open the Málaga Film Festival last year but was delayed due to digital effects work. "It’s a bit of a ghost film for me, but now it’s ready," he stated.
With Minotaur, Picasso, and the Women of Guernica, Medem delves into the life of Pablo Picasso, exploring the impact of his work and the women who shaped both his art and personal life. The film stars Astrid Bergès-Frisbey, Pablo Derqui, Enrique Arce, and Pedro Salamanca, bringing to life this evocative story about art, love, and history.
The director also announced that in 2027 he will release Jai Alai, a long-gestating project that was once considered as a series but will finally hit the big screen.
Julio Medem’s filmmaking remains as dynamic as ever, with a slate full of premieres and new projects that reaffirm his status as one of Spain’s most unique cinematic voices.
