What is laser cutting?

In summary, we can say that laser cutting is a process that uses a high power beam of light to melt the material of a part for cutting and engraving.

Stencil marking is the abbreviation for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation which stands for Stimulated Radiation Emission Light Amplification.

To put it simply, we can make a comparison with something many people have experienced at home or at school, which is the game of generating fire with a magnifying glass.

he concept is the same, is to amplify the energy of light to heat the material in a particular region, as is the play of magnifying glass, which amplifies sunlight at a specific point.

This beam of light is so dense that it melts and evaporates the material, making it possible not only to cut complex pieces of various materials but also to engrave through energy and depth regulation.

You may be wondering now, are these machines and lasers all the same? The answer is no, as branding irons for wood crafts technology advances the trend is for more and more laser machines to emerge, the market now offers three main types of laser for cutting and engraving.

Laser gas:

This is the most commonly used type of laser, used for cutting various materials including acrylic, plastic, wood, glass, paper, textiles, sheets and film, leather and even stone. It also uses for embossing tool. The gas laser is a mixture of carbon dioxide with other gases such as nitrogen and helium, which is electrically stimulated. Its wavelength is 10.6 micrometers, which allows it to work with non-metallic materials.

Fiber laser:

This is a more complex laser, belonging to the solid-state laser group, where a laser beam is generated or as it is known as seed laser, amplified with special glass fibers, the wavelength is 1 064 micrometers.

Its intensity is 100 times more than the CO2 laser, which allows for much more precision in cutting, this laser because of its power is suitable for cutting metals, but can also cut other non-metallic materials.

Discover the advantages of laser cutting:

Laser cutting is one of the technologies that made it possible to develop complex parts at a very low cost compared to other cutting alternatives.

The main advantages of laser cutting are first of all the precision and ability to perform complex cuts previously made through more than one process and even with the aid of manual work ‚today with CNC programmed cutting and control capability it is possible to accelerate the process and reduce tooling costs.

It features excellent cut quality in materials such as carbon steel, polished stainless steel, acrylic, aluminum, wood and more.
