What is laser engraving?

Everything in the universe is made of atoms. Atoms are in constant motion, but they can be in different states of excitation. If a large amount of energy is applied to an atom, you can leave what is called the ground energy level and go to an exciting level.

The level of excitation depends on the amount of energy that is applied to the atom through heat, light or electricity. Once an electron moves to a higher energy level, it will eventually return to its normal state.

When it does, it releases its energy in the form of a photon, a particle of light. The laser is a device that controls the way atoms release their energy. "Laser" is an acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation.

How does it work?

Stencil marking works in engraving equipment. What we do is take advantage of the heat generated by the light produced by the laser tube, that beam of light is directed using mirrors towards the material that we are going to work. This light passes through a lens that focuses everything the heat at a very small point around 0.20mm to 0.25mm depending on the focus lens being used.

Does the laser burn the materials?

Yes. Actually, in common words, the laser burns the materials when burning produces evaporation of the material. It is for that reason that if we see a Metal, Cardboard or other material, we can realize that really what the laser is doing is burning them.

How to determine what cutting method to use?

To determine the best cutting method for your process, a careful examination of your production needs must be performed. All cutting methods have their advantages and disadvantages. Typical criteria used should include the following:

- Material to process
- Material Thickness Range
- The accuracy that is required
- Desired finish
- Desired production rate
- Cost of technology
- Operating costs
- Operator Requirements

What are the benefits of using a laser machine for engraving?

There are many reasons to use branding iron or laser engraving machine. There is almost no limit to the engraving path, the laser can move in any direction. It means that very precise and complex design can be easily made at very high speeds which allow cutting a wide range of materials.
