Peter Nygard’s benevolence has been demonstrated not just with Bahamian athletic associations but many other causes in The Bahamas to the tune of millions

Bahamian Boxer Tureano Johnson isn’t the only athlete to have benefited from the benevolence of Peter Nygard. There are countless athletes, especially within The Bahamas, who were recipients of sponsorship and donations from Peter Nygard over the years.

As The Sports Magazine, Bahamas (June 2013) expressed, “There is no other person in these islands who have done so much for our sporting community than Peter Nygard.” The publication’s article, “Peter: Sports Contribution Spans 20 Years”, goes on to explain that Peter Nygard is committed to establishing The Bahamas as a dominant power in sports internationally. In fact, it states that the history of The Bahamas in sports has been re-written and there is no question that Peter Nygard played a very integral part in it.

Credited with supporting the achievements of many athletes in The Bahamas, Peter Nygard is highly regarded for his unselfish giving in not just contributing to athletic development in The Bahamas but in rewarding the Olympic gold medalists athletes in The Bahamas (the 2000 women’s 4 x 100 meter relay team and the 2012 men’s 4 x 400 relay team).

Here are just some of the specific gifts among many that Peter Nygard gave to athletes in The Bahamas over the years:
$100,000 to a 2000 sports fund in The Bahamas
$25,000 to the Golden Girls
$10,000 to Golden Knight Chris “Fireman” Brown
$10,000 to Golden Knight Michael Mathieu
$10.000 to Golden Knight Ramon “Fearless” Miller
$10,000 to Golden Knight Demetrius Pinder
$10,000 to Men’s National Volleyball team

As to why Peter Nygard gives so much to athletes, in a Bahama Journal article, “Nygard’s Golden Jubilee Review – ‘His Contribution To The Athletes Is Monumental’”, Peter Nygard was quoted from a radio interview in which he explained his motivation: “I have been an athlete nearly all of my life. My ambition was to be a track and field athlete when I was growing up. I am so close to the world of athletics, and when I saw this tremendous skill level here [The Bahamas]; the genes that we have here per capita is perhaps one of the best in the world. It just gave me such a thrill to live vicariously through these athletes—the Golden Girls, the Golden Knights, Volleyball players and Boxers. It didn’t matter which athletes came; I was their supporter.”
