The purpose of a community is to help people socially, financially and intellectually. Politically it has to do with their rights that each has and how it should be exercised. Financially aiding these individuals so that they can attend national and international programs to build themselves up or other matters related to the society as well. And intellectually spreading awareness about their rights, providing sponsorship for them academically, and so on. The Delta Sigma Theta Sorority is a community that was founded by 22 collegiate women in the year 1913. Their area of focus was to improve the living conditions for the African-American community. They are part of the public service sector and emphasise on programs for the African-American community as such. They are based on non-profit and organise programs in local communities all over the globe. As of its current membership, they are more than 200,000 in number. Their goal is to promote sisterhood, to provide sponsorship and also to improve the intellectual awareness for the local communities. The establishment of the organisation is a result of the need for the improvements in the lives of the African-American community.

They also extend their services to individuals in leadership roles, finance, and even intellect. As a way to fund their finance expenses being a non-profit based organisation, they have also advertised their merchandise at the Unique Greek Store which includes products like bangles, wallet cases, pullovers and some other accessories. These are sold to aid their financial support that they extend to the local communities of people.
