Part 1: Choosing Your Perfect Dog:

Are you getting ready to choose your Perfect Dog For Life? Bringing a dog into your life is a major decision. Before you take any action toward dog ownership you need to ask yourself if you are truly ready for the major responsibility of being a dog owner, and you need to ask yourself this very important question before you start to look for your Perfect Dog For Life.
One of your first considerations should be an honest analysis of whether or not you can actually afford to own a dog. You must understand the cost of dog ownership so that you can make your decision based on a complete understanding of the financial commitment required of a responsible dog owner - and not just the wonderful image you have in your head of you and your new best friend snuggling, playing and going on adventures together. If you have decided that you can afford it, and that the time is right, congratulations, we are happy and excited for you, and maybe just a bit jealous that you are going to be getting a new fur-baby!

Now that you have determined that you can afford it, and that you are going to get a dog it’s time to figure out what type of dog is your Perfect Dog For Life.

There are a number factors to consider before you choose a dog. Perhaps most importantly, you should take a very close look at your current lifestyle and consider what adjustments you are willing to make for the new dog in your life. You must think about the needs of your family, especially if you have children or other pets in your household. People with allergies, or those who just prefer low-shedding dogs, might want to look into hypoallergenic dog breeds. And you need to consider how much time and commitment you are willing to make towards training your dog, enrolling in a dog training program, or hiring a private dog trainer so that you end up with your Perfect Dog For Life.

Next, think about the size of your ideal dog, the dog’s energy level, and the age of dog you are considering. You must remember that buying or adopting a dog requires a firm commitment to responsible dog ownership.

In our next article we’ll share some tips to help you choose the a dog with that is the right size and has the right activity level for you and your family.
