Hinsichtlich der Hardwarepower spielt HTC traditionsgemäß in der obersten Liga und verbaut einen Snapdragon 810 Achtkernprozessor von Qualcomm mit 2 GHz Takt sowie üppigen 3GB Arbeitsspeicher. Der interne Speicherplatz von 32GB kann per microSD um bis zu 128GB erweitert werden. Die sonstige technische Ausstattung ist wie beim Vorgänger am Puls der Zeit: LTE Cat 9 mit bis zu 450 Mbps, WLAN-ac, Bluetooth 4.1, NFC, GPS und ein Infrarotsender lassen keine Wünsche offen. Der MicroUSB Anschluss ist MHL-fähig und an der Headsetbuchse hängen wieder hochwertige Digitalwandler sowie ein kraftvoller Verstärkerchip.Die BoomSound Lautsprecher, welche den HTC One M9 Vorgängern hinsichtlich der Klangqualität stets die Spitzenposition unter den Smartphones sicherten, sind natürlich wieder an Bord und bringen als Neuerung auch Dolby Virtual 5.1 Surround Sound mit. Insgesamt drei Mikrofone sorgen auch bei der Aufnahme von Sprache, Musik und Atmosphäre für höchste Audioqualität. Per Fingerwisch connected sich das HTC One M9 mit dem heimischen Entertainment System, HTC Connect wird diese Funktion genannt.

Die ob der geringen 4 Megapixel Auflösung zuletzt noch kritisierte Ultrapixel Kamera des HTC One M8 rückt auf die Front und bietet dort gut ausgeleuchtete Selfies auch bei schlechten Lichtverhältnissen. Auf der Rückseite findet sich nun eine 20 Megapixel Kamera mit BSI Sensor für schärfere und detailreichere Fotos. HTC verbaut zwei Blitz-LED in unterschiedlichen Farbtönen und verzichtet auf die Tiefenkamera. Die Effekte der Duokamera im One M8 bleiben trotzdem erhalten, das Weichzeichnen von Hintergründen oder auf Objekte angewandte Farbeffekte werden nun per Software ermöglicht. "Zoomen Sie ruhig nah ran an ihre Motive, Sie werden Details wie bei einer digitalen Spiegelreflexkamera erleben. Ohne Zweifel ist das die beste Fotografie-Erfahrung in einem Smartphone", so das Marketing von HTC.

Ein 1,4-Zoll großes AMOLED-Display mit 400 x 400 Pixel Auflösung ziert die Front. Dadurch entsteht eine Pixeldichte von 286 ppi, dies ist bisher der höchste Wert bei einer Android Wear Uhr. Auch der Kontrast soll mit 10.000:1 extrem hoch ausfallen. Als Betriebssystem wird Android Wear zum Einsatz kommen, womit die Uhr auch nicht mit Android Smartphones kompatibel sein wird. Huawei wird eine eigene Fitness App veröffentlichten, außerdem sollen Kooperationen mit Google für Google Fit und Jawbone angestrebt werden.So schön die Uhr auch seien mag, einen Termin, Preis und Informationen zum verbauten Akku und der Laufzeit blieb uns Huawei leider noch schuldig. Es wird aktuell von einem Release im Juni 2015 ausgegangen, man sollte aber wohl eher nicht mit einer längeren Laufzeit als den üblichen 1-2 Tagen rechnen.
