Younger Patients Opting For Upper Blepharoplasty In London In 2022.

Eyelid surgery (Blepharoplasty) is one of the most popular surgeries and is performed daily on patients throughout London in the United Kingdom. In the past, patients having this surgery were over the age of fifty, but times are changing and many younger patients are opting for upper Blepharoplasty in London this year.

Pari Shams, a Consultant Oculoplastic Surgeon and a member of the British Oculoplastic Surgeons Society, said “The demand for upper Blepharoplasty has changed in recent years and we are seeing younger patients opting for this procedure. It has become a trend since many of our younger generations are now working from home, making it easier to hide the surgery during the healing process. This is combined with the youth of today being more aware of their appearance.”

While most patients opting for upper Blepharoplasty in London are over the age of fifty, oculoplastic surgeons have had requests from those in their twenties. Patients are starting to use noninvasive procedures, such as fillers and Botox at younger ages than in the past and there is a higher sense of awareness when it comes to cosmetic procedures. Patients are more proactive in maintaining their youthful appearances, especially when wearing a mask, where only their eyes are on display.

Up until a few years ago, there was always a stigma associated with plastic surgery, but this has reduced significantly and it's more acceptable these days to choose surgery to improve facial appearance and enhance confidence. Pari Shams went on to say “I have also seen high demand from younger generations who have genetic predispositions, such as heavy upper eyelids or hooded eyelids. With the procedure, their confidence and self-esteem rise considerably.”

It is important to remember that upper Blepharoplasty is not a preventative measure, but will improve the appearance of their eyes. Having this surgery at a younger age means that they won't have to worry about it for a long time to come. While blepharoplasty is a long-lasting operation, they usually last up to fifteen years before it needs to be done again. Having it done too young will result in needing a second surgery at a later stage.
