The weavers at PROJECT 1000 are redefining the above concept while rekindling the charm of handmade. Luxury is owning a piece of an artist's soul. That's what Project 1000 specializes in; every artisan is special and so is her design vision.

The weavers at PROJECT 1000 are redefining the above concept while rekindling the charm of handmade. Luxury is owning a piece of an artist's soul. That's what Project 1000 specializes in; every artisan is special and so is her design vision.

In a world where we are surrounded by over-standardized products, Project 1000 wishes to revive the traditional art of weaving on wooden looms and knitting with the crochet needle. Where prioritizing human artistry and imperfection over mechanical meticulosity renders a unique charm to every product. Thereby, making it exclusive to both, the weaver and the customer where every article is a piece of art and not a result of over standardization.

We find that there is an abundance of talent that is left unemployed in rural India. The birth of “Project 1000" was mainly due to the recognition of this opportunity for community benefit. By encouraging skill development and creative activity, we are taking a step towards changing the economic narrative of the women from the hinterlands of Maharashtra, India.

PROJECT 1000 is a social enterprise engaged in handcrafting home decor and lifestyle products. We aim to create gainful employment to help rural women take their respectful and rightful place in society.

Instead of spoon-feeding charity to the hinterlands, we believe in investing in them and their skillsets. However, the process doesn’t end there; after having attained mastery in knitting, they are educated in artistic trends in the global market. Our end goal is that they should be able to independently design and produce products that can compete at the international level. This is our “reinvented” definition of a community project.

Our program is a twofold approach: the first month focuses on Product Design and Development. The next month emphasizes quality management and focuses on perfecting and churning out a saleable product that has passed several rounds of product acceptance in the current market and which can be marketed on an international level. Along with this we also train the women in soft skills to help them deal with customer queries.

As part of the program during the lockdown, we have been able to manufacture a range of articles that include floor rugs, placemats, dining mats, laptop jackets, clutch baskets, bread baskets, fashion tote bags, office bags, backpacks, and more. One of our special products is the lumbar support cushions which are filled with Raw Cotton - KAAPUS, Which renders a natural stiffness to therapeutically support the lower back for people sitting for long durations in their homes, offices, or in cars.

We follow very high-end quality control procedures that meet global standards. All our products are indigenously designed and handcrafted in-house using UPCYCLED factory salvage falling in line with our belief in Environment Protection while encouraging “Reuse and Recycle”. We use fabric yarn which is certified sustainable and functional made from natural cotton, bamboo, hemp, and recycled pet bottle fibers. Project 1000 prides itself in being firmly rooted in mother earth and crafting a sustainable lifestyle for the community to use and enjoy. We believe that now more than ever it is time to address climate change and take a step towards protecting our habitat. It is NOW or never !!
